What it does
CA 05 37 Auto As A Power Source Exclusion addresses losses arising out of the use of a covered auto as a source of power for something other than the auto itself, such as tools, equipment or buildings. ISO introduced it in its 2026 multistate forms revision (CA-2026-OFR26), approved for policies effective on or after September 1, 2027 in states that have adopted the revision.
Why it matters
Vehicles that supply power to other equipment blur the line between auto use and premises or equipment exposures, which other policies (general liability, property, inland marine) are designed to cover.
Selling notes
- Ask whether the client uses vehicles to power tools, generators, buildings or other equipment, and how often.
- Read the exclusion to see which coverages it affects and whether any exceptions apply, then check that general liability and property policies pick up the excluded exposure.
