What it does
The business auto form's physical damage section pays only limited transportation expense: $30 a day up to $900 after the total theft of a private passenger auto. When a truck or van is in the shop after a covered collision or comprehensive loss, the business has no coverage for the cost of a replacement. CA 99 23 Rental Reimbursement Coverage adds that protection for covered autos shown in its schedule, subject to the per-day and maximum limits selected. The current multistate edition is 10 13.
ISO's 2026 multistate forms revision (CA-2026-OFR26) introduces a 09 27 edition of this form, approved for policies effective on or after September 1, 2027 in states where it has been adopted; the prior edition remains in use until then and in states that have not adopted the revision.
Who needs it
Businesses that cannot operate without their vehicles: contractors, delivery and service fleets, and any account with one or two critical units.
Key points
- Coverage applies only when the auto carries the corresponding physical damage coverage and the loss is covered.
- Read the schedule for the daily amount, maximum days or dollars, and any waiting period.
- Rental of commercial trucks costs far more than a car; set the daily limit to a realistic replacement cost.
Quoting notes
Ask what the business would rent if each vehicle were down for repairs. ISO also offers Optional Limits – Loss Of Use Expenses (CA 99 90) to raise the hired auto loss-of-use limit, a different exposure.
