What it does

CA 00 37 War Exclusion adds a stand-alone war exclusion to ISO commercial auto policies. ISO introduced it in its 2025 multistate forms revision (CA-2025-OFR25), effective September 1, 2026 in most states (later in a few, such as October 1, 2026 in Connecticut and Kentucky and December 1, 2026 in Michigan and Rhode Island). A revised 09 27 edition is part of the 2026 revision, approved for policies effective on or after September 1, 2027. State-specific versions were filed at the same time, for example Illinois (CA 00 53), Kansas (CA 00 58), Washington (CA 00 55), Maryland (CA 00 61) and Pennsylvania (CA 00 62).

Who sees it

Any commercial auto account written on ISO forms once the insurer adopts the revision. Some commercial auto endorsements already carry war-related exclusions (for example, Auto Medical Payments Coverage CA 99 03 excludes war and warlike action); this endorsement addresses war as a separate exposure across the policy.

Selling notes

  • Read the endorsement's definitions to see how it treats war, warlike action and related events, and whether any coverage (such as physical damage) is affected differently from liability.
  • Compare with the terrorism exclusions (CA 23 84 to CA 23 87); terrorism and war are handled by different endorsements.
  • Expect to see it on renewals after the insurer's adoption date.
