What it does
CA 04 73 is an ISO additional insured endorsement for Covered Autos Liability that, as its title says, applies "when required in written contract or agreement," so parties do not have to be scheduled one by one. ISO introduced it in its 2026 multistate forms revision (CA-2026-OFR26), approved for policies effective on or after September 1, 2027 in states that have adopted the revision. Its scheduled counterpart is CA 04 74.
Who needs it
Accounts that sign many contracts requiring additional insured status on auto liability, such as contractors, haulers, facility service firms and delivery vendors. Until it is adopted, the usual ISO tool is the designated insured endorsement CA 20 48, which only confirms insured status to the extent a party already qualifies under Who Is An Insured.
Selling notes
- Read the endorsement for the scope of coverage given to additional insureds and any requirement that the contract be signed before the accident.
- Primary and noncontributory wording (CA 04 49) and waivers of subrogation (CA 04 43 or CA 04 44) remain separate endorsements.
- Confirm the insurer's adoption date before referencing the form on certificates.
